Differences Between Carpenter Ants And Termites Waist Shape

Although they are very similar, it is important to know the differences between carpenter ants and termites.

Waist Shape

Termites

Termites have a broad, thick waist that appears uniform from front to back and looks "tube-shaped" like a grain of rice.

Carpenter Ants

Carpenter Ants have a narrow, pinched waist with a distinct separation between thorax and abdomen, they have a classic ant appearance.

Antennae

Termites

Termites have straight antennae and have a bead-like appearance.

    Carpenter Ants

    • Carpenter ants antennae are elbowed or bent and have a distinct "joint" in the antenna.
